It should work if you put your boot helper image on your small linear flash, and then your large actual IOS image on the ATA disks.Strangely, rommon seems to know about both slot and disk devices. In fact, when in rommon on any of my npes, my "disk0:" device is seen as "slot0:" yet I can't change my bootvar to point at slot0: since once running the doesn't refer to the device as "slot" type.
